Simple, brilliant, funny, original … Many adjectives could be used to define the return of ex-Mutante Arnaldo Baptista to the stages with a concert this Saturday at Sesc Belenzinho, in Sao Paulo, but none would really cover the entire performance. "This is a historic event. Arnaldo hasn’t done this performance since 1981, when he played at Tuca" announced the presenter before the artist came in.

* Sitting by a grand piano, wearing a bright yellow shirt, the musician played hits from his solo career as well as international classics, deconstructing each song, in versions often melodically unrecognizable, with apparently a lot of improvisation – a thing of genius. He sang in Spanish – "Perfidia" – English – Bob Dylan and Elton John – French – "Les Feuilles Mortes" – and Italian – "Santa Lucia".

* Among the classics of his repertoire he sang, always gently, “Cê Tá Pensando Que Eu Sou Loki”, “Não Estou Nem Aí”, “Jesus Come Back to Earth”, “Balada do Louco” and “Ando Meio Desligado” – to the delight of the fans who packed the theater. From the new CD, "Esphera," with still no release set, he played "O Gatinho" (“The Kitten”), a declaration of Kitten love, "I Don’t Care" and "Walking in the Sky." Between one song and another Arnold, who is a proficient pianist, played excerpts from Bach and Beethoven and even "Tico-Tico no Fubá".

* Despite being a man of few words, the musician pulled screams, laughter and applause each time he addressed the public or when, shyly, he responded to praising by hiding his face with his hands. At the end of the concert, he said: "I hope I deserve all this love." Backstage, he told Glamurama that his new album is inspired by the "moment of love" that he’s been living and that his return to the stage "is a sum of his experiences." Hooray!
