One of the most famous and polemic addresses in Monaco has just changed hands. The penthouse of the La Belle Époque building, located on Avenue d’Ostende in the princedom, was sold for the record amount of US$ 308 million. That was the place where the banker Edmond Safra was found murdered in 1999, after a criminal fire.
* The ones in charge of the business were the British entrepreneurs Christian and Nick Candy, who bought the estate from Lily Safra weeks after the fire for a very low cost. After investing US$ 40 million on a remodelling that had a hand from the designer Martin Kemp, Christian and Nick finally found a buyer – an Arab sheik that, as it seems, was fascinated by the panic/alarm room built by Edmond to protect himself against kidnappers. Eccentricities of billionaires.
