After the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear explosions that hit Japan last week, the organizers of Tokyo Fashion Week decided to cancel the shows this season, for obvious reasons. Scheduled to begin next week, fashion week is not the only casualty the fashion market is facing – beauty and clothing brands already account for 10.6% losses since accidents: Uniqlo fell by 17.5% and Shiseido fell 9.18%.
* Reuters did a survey and noted that Japan, the third largest seller of luxury, responsible for 11% of this market in the world, is losing money, and some brands and groups are aware of the market, since many of them have come to depend on the unbridled consumption of the Japanese to create collections and pampering that are sold exclusively there.
* In less than one week and several conglomerates have amassed millions in losses, like LVMH and Hermès and Polo Ralph Lauren, which registered a loss of 3.1%, Tiffany has lost 4.3%, and the group PPR – Yves Saint Laurent brands and Gucci – which is already at a loss of 2.5% in sales.
* In times of basic needs, there’s no room for luxury.
