J. Crew’s intention was to honor Tony Duquette, but the plan seems to have backfired. Duquette was a costume designer for films and musicals in the 1940s and was such a fan of leopard prints that he decided to develop his own brand with animal print on everything: clothes, bedding and even furniture.
* And that’s where J. Crew comes in: it launched a leopard cardigan in its spring collection and named it Duquette, as a tribute to the designer. However, Duquette’s company didn’t appreciate the tribute and is suing J. Crew. Well, the homage has just gone to court!
