The "New York Times" says that she is the most influential photographer of the last 20 years. It’s surrounded by that much hype that Rio will receive the largest retrospective of the American Nan Goldin ever held in Brazil, at MAM-RJ, starting this Wednesday.
* Called "Salto no Fogo", the exhibition brings together a series of printed photographs and slideshows from 1970 to 2000, curated by Rio born Ligia Canongia and Swiss-Brazilian art historian Adon Peres.
* But culturettes should be ready: some images are quite strong, since Nan has specialized in portraying the underworld of cities like Boston and New York. "The characters of the artist not only make a poetic profile of reality but also a political testimony of our times," said Ligia Canongia. The show will be on display until April 8, and Nan warned she isn’t coming for the opening, but for the closing of the exhibition. Mark your calendars!
