Despite the tragedy of the collapsed buildings in downtown Rio and the grief that still lingers in the area, art can serve as a respite in the midst of hard times. And nothing better than a genius like the Italian Amedeo Modigliani to provide this kind of relief.

* The locals can check out, from Tuesday until April 15, a large exhibition in homage to the artist, called "Modigliani: Images of a Lifetime."

* There are 230 pieces – 12 original oil paintings, manuscripts, photographs and sculptures in bronze, among others – which provide an overview of the work and life of the Italian artist who died at aged 36 in 1920, in France, leaving a very important legacy. Hurry up there, glamurette!
