Unlike the Golden Globes, which crowned "The Social Network" as this year’s big winner, the Oscars seems to lean toward "The Speech of the King," which received the most nominations, 12 in total. The nominees were announced on Tuesday, in a broadcast by ABC and online. The award ceremony takes place only on Feb. 27.
* Losing ratings in recent years and with the clear intention of becoming a more popular award show, the Oscars didn’t leave out 2010’s blockbusters. "Inception," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, got eight nominations and "Toy Story 3" snatched four. "Alice in Wonderland" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" were nominated in technical categories.
* As for the actors, there were few surprises. Javier Bardem is a strong contender for his performance in "Biutiful." If he wins, he’ll be the first actor to win an Oscar for a film spoken entirely in Spanish. Among women, Black Swan’s Natalie Portman is still the favorite for best actress, now followed by past winners as Annette Benning, nominated for "The Kids Are Alright," and Nicole Kidman for her role in "Rabbit Hole." It’s a tough race!
