Fashion invades the movies. Gucci launches in Venice, from August 31 to September 10, the Gucci Award for Women in Cinema. The nominees are Caroline Champetier, director of photography of “Gods and Men”; “Tree of Life” star Jessica Chastain, “Habemus Papam” screenwriter Federica Pontremoli; “Detective Dee” and “the Mystery of the Phantom Flame” producer Nansun Shi and Athina Tsangari, director and producer of “Attenberg.”
* The jury is headed by Frida Giannini, the creative director of the Italian fashion house, and formed by actors Robin Wright, Valeria Golino and James Franco and journalist Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan. The winner will be announced during a ceremony and a private dinner on Sept. 2.
* Gucci’s relationship with movies has existed since 1940, and for the past six years, the brand restored legendary films like Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” and “Il Gattopardo,” by Luchino Visconti, and "A Woman Under the Influence" by John Cassavetes.
