Actor Willem Dafoe – whose résumé includes no fewer than two Oscar nominations – is the newest “born and bred” Carioca. In Rio since the beginning of the week, Dafoe has made many new friends here, and on Wednesday he met Caetano Veloso, an old dream of his. And they actually decided to seal their friendship with dinner at the very traditional Nova Capela restaurant, at Lapa. And they didn’t hesitate to order the house’s specialty: the lamb.
* Gilda Mattoso introduced the actor to Caetano, and still managed to take the group – which also included Willem’s wife, Italian director Giada Colagrande – to the Odeon Cinema to see movies by Carlos Nader and Karim Aïnouz. At the end of the session, Willem wanted to do more things and Gilda suggested they returned to Lapa, but everyone ended up at the party of Karim’s film, in Studio RJ. Whew!
