Columbia Pictures announced this Thursday that the chosen one to take Tobey Maguire’s place was no one different than Andrew Garfield.

Neither Robert Pattinson nor Chace Crawford nor even Zac Efron. The race to be the leading man of the fourth sequel of “Spider Man” is over, and the winner was a british actor. After a worldwide casting search, Columbia Pictures announced this thursday that Andrew Garfield was the chosen one to replace Tobey Maguire.

* Don’t recognize the name? He has played parts on many cool movies such as “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”, with Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Heath Ledger. He was also featured in “The Other Boleyn Girl”, along with Natalie Portmann and Scarlett Johansson and, most recently took the leading role in “The Social Network”, with Justin Timberlake.

* The actor was taken by surprise with the news of being the next Peter Parker. He is now in Cancun, Mexico, promoting the movie about Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook. This thursday afternoon, Garfield was called into a suite of the hotel he is staying at, where the director of Marvel, a producer and a Sony executive were gathered to tell him the good news. There’s no need to say that the actor was overwhelmed. We can’t wait for this 2012 blockbuster to be released.
