One of the most anticipated shows of Haute Couture Week in France is without a doubt Chanel’s, which happened Tuesday night at the Grand Palais in Paris. Karl Lagerfeld put aside the conventional time slots and showed the winter collection at 10 pm. As usual, the brand transformed the place, that became just like Place Vendome, complete with an obelisk created especially for the presentation.
* Karl was inspired by the historic Ritz Hotel, which served as home for Coco Chanel, and also by the film "Metropolis," by director Fritz Lang. On the runway, tweed coats with cut-outs and wear on the sleeves, jackets with sparkles that looked like effects of a science fiction movie, high boots and gloves cut in half.
* Alexandra Shulman, editor in chief of "Vogue" UK, tweeted that the collection has a touch of Mary Poppins and a certain aristocratic extravagance. The portal "Style.com," on the other hand, highlighted the dark mood of the presentation, which had only shades of black, gray, dark blue and off-white – even the off white pieces seemed dark and tense, with the help of accessories and the gauze mask that covered the eyes of the models. Below, some images, just take a look:
