Founded in 1884 and considered one of the most important architectural landmarks of New York, the legendary Chelsea Hotel closed its doors this weekend. The building where the hotel is located should be sold for at least US$ 80 million, possibly for entrepreneur Joseph Chetrit.
* The 100 fixed residents of the hotel still don’t know what will be their fate. For now, the only thing certain is that the site will undergo significant remodeling this year.
* The Chelsea was famous, among other reasons, for being the place where Arthur C. Clarke wrote the bestseller "2001 – A Space Odyssey." It was where the girlfriend of English musician Sid Vicious, of the Sex Pistols, was found dead in 1978, and where singer Patti Smith lived with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.
