Art dealers as Giovana Bastos, Mario Cohen, Max Perlingeiro and artists like Cláudio Montagna and Lucio Salvatore attended the opening of Art Rio, a contemporary art fair organized by Alexandre Accioly, Luiz Calainho, Elisangela Valadares and Brenda Valansi Osório, on Wednesday, at Pier Maua in Rio de Janeiro.
* Art Rio is open to the public until Sunday, with about 700 works of art – including paintings by Picasso, Guignard, Ismael Nery and two sculptures by Botero, each evaluated at about US$ 1 million.
* At the opening, Mayor Eduardo Paes bought a Mario Cohen’s piece from Gallery 18. Accioly was generous enough to donate a painting made a point to donate a painting – Max Perlingeiro’s "São Sebastião," from espaço Pinakotheke Cultural – to the Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro. Max himself donated a piece of his private gallery, a picture of Guignard, to the same museum, MAR, which will open in Botafogo.
* The curator of Pinakothek, Max Perlingeiro, evaluated the success. "I sold about 60% of my collection in two hours. More than 25 pieces, including paintings by Picasso and Lasar Segall. I think the market of contemporary art in Rio is really booming." Check out photos of everybody who stopped by the gallery!
